What is nightlife like in Zicatela (and how does it differ from La Punta)?
Puerto Escondido has two very clear nightlife personalities. La Punta is the 'chill start': dirt streets, bohemian bars, live music, and an early closing time (around 11:00 PM - 12:00 AM). It's ideal for dinner and first drinks. Zicatela (the main strip on Av. del Morro) is the 'late night': here are the beach clubs that transform into dance floors and bars that close much later. The vibe is more intense, with electronic music and reggaeton.
Note
Golden Rule: if your plan is to enjoy, your return is part of the plan. Don't leave transport logistics for the end when you're already tired.
Which plan suits you: chill, social, or full party?
How to plan the night to avoid chaos? (dinner → drinks → return)
Dinner: Define where you're going to eat and arrive early or book. La Punta gets very crowded after 8 PM.
Zone: Choose 1 main zone. Moving from La Punta to Zicatela takes time during peak hours; do it only if it's worth it.
Cut-off time: Define your 'cut-off time' to change plans (if it gets too full, if it rains, or if you get tired, leave).
Safe return: Taxi stand, trusted contact, or designated driver. Never drive motorcycles or rented vehicles if you've been drinking.
Essentials: Charge your phone to 100% and carry enough cash for taxis and tips.
Heads up
Practical safety: avoid walking alone in dark stretches of the beach or back streets. Don't lose sight of your drink and prioritize safe transport. If something feels off or uncomfortable, leave immediately.
How to get around Puerto Escondido at night stress-free?
At night, mobility options change. Walking is safe only in very illuminated and busy areas (main street). For long distances, the taxi is king. There is no official Uber operating normally. If you rented a vehicle with KORU (Jeep or Scooter), use it only if there is a sober designated driver; breathalyzer checkpoints are real and for your safety.
Tip
Logistics Tip: Before going out, take a screenshot of your hotel's location. Bring an external battery. If you go in a group, define a meeting point in case someone loses signal.

Good to know
If you tell us your dates, party size, and plan type (chill/social/party), we recommend the best mobility option (Jeep for groups or Scooter for couples) to move stress-free.
